What Evidence To Collect After a Crash in Bloomington

If you are able, take clear photos of the accident scene. Document vehicle damage, license plates, roadway conditions, traffic signs, skid marks, debris, and any visible injuries. Capture images from multiple angles, including wide shots that show the position of the vehicles and close-up images that highlight specific damage. If weather or lighting conditions contributed to the crash, photograph those as well.

Exchange information with all drivers involved, including names, phone numbers, addresses, driver’s license numbers, license plate numbers, and insurance details.

If there are witnesses nearby, ask for their names and contact information. Independent witness statements can sometimes clarify how the crash occurred.

Make sure a police report is filed. The official report often plays a key role in how insurance companies evaluate a claim. Ask the responding officer for the report number and information about how to obtain a copy once it becomes available.

Seek medical attention promptly, even if injuries seem minor. Keep copies of medical evaluations, discharge paperwork, prescriptions, and follow-up recommendations. It can also be helpful to write down your symptoms in the days after the crash, noting any changes in pain or mobility.

Finally, keep all records related to the crash organized in one place. This includes repair estimates, towing bills, rental vehicle receipts, correspondence with insurance companies, and documentation of missed work or lost income.

As you can see, after a crash in Bloomington, collecting and preserving evidence can help protect your health, your rights, and any future insurance claim. These careful steps at the scene and in the days that follow can make a significant difference if questions or insurance disputes arise later.
