Types of Neck Injuries

Muscle Strain – A strain is an injury to the ligaments, connective tissues that hold bones together. Symptoms include swelling, pain, and reduced flexibility.
Whiplash - Whiplash generally occurs after the head is thrown into hyperextension then quickly forward. Whiplash generally occurs after a car accident, sports injuries, falls, or trauma. Whiplash can result in a neck strain. Symptoms of whiplash include weakness, numbness, tingling down the arms, stiffness, and even dizziness.

Burners – Named for the way that it feels is a temporary injury to a nerve root. A burner can be caused by an abrupt tilt of the head. Symptoms include burning, stinging, numbness/weakness down your neck or one arm.
Neck Fracture – A neck fracture is a break in the bone. This can be caused by a fall or even trauma. Sports players, such as football players, are at a higher risk for neck fractures, as well as elderly people with osteoporosis.
